Here goes nothing … which could potentially be EVERYTHING
We’re very quick to give our power away. Humans.
Quick to shove aside uncomfortable thoughts, or conversely, let the uncomfortable feelings completely overwhelm us.
Quick to let someone make a decision for us, or let the decision make itself, which often doesn’t end up in our favour.
Quick to say yes, when really we meant no.
Quick to meet someone else’s demands before considering our own.
Quick to assume someone else has all the answers, and we can’t move forward until that opinion has been sought.
Quick to believe things we read and hear.
Quick to cast aside the things that would actually light us up, because we deem them silly, inconsequential, indulgent, or impossible.
Very quick to question ourselves, to cast the shadow of doubt on our innate creativity and power.
Quick to second guess our first intuitive thought.
Quick to ignore the signals from our body via pain, tension, blockages, and emotional charge.
Quick to react, rather than respond.
Quick to join dots that aren’t really there.
Quick to suppress our desires, in favour of something more normal or sensible.
In fact many people don’t even know how to listen to their desires, and obsess over healing wounds and traumas that would have very little impact on the past, present, or future.
My therapist said to me this morning:
“The only certainty is YOU, Harriette”
I giggled, and said, “funny that, I’ve been telling my peeps all week that to bet on oneself is the safest bet we can make”
Apparently I’m a wise woman. Ha!
Wise or not. Priestess or not. I’ve been in the business of giving my power away for a long time.
- doing things to please other people
- putting other people’s needs before my own
- saying yes and moving boundaries and goal posts to accommodate others needs
- compromising… because that’s what life is, isn’t it? One great big compromise.
“You’ll never have a perfect relationship”, they said, “you’ll have to compromise somewhere”, they said.
“You’ll never be able to find the perfect forever home”, they said, “you’ll have to compromise somewhere”, they said.
“You’ll never be able to double your annual turnover in just one month”, they said, “it’ll take incremental increase”, they said.
