The trap of guarantee

Despite popular opinion, investing in a coach doesn’t guarantee you anything. It never has. But I’m witnessing a rise in the belief that the ONLY way to get what you want is to hire a coach, and this belief is being cemented by the “you need immediate proximity to my million dollar mind” brigade.

The best way to ensure you DON’T get what you want from a coach is to enter the relationship believing she’s going to give you some sort of money dance that makes you shit $100 bills because she’s clearly got SOMETHING up her sleeve that makes her successful and you a dreamer.

I think we’ve all invested in a course or programme at one point or another from this energy, and whilst we can recognise and take responsibility for it, it’s also not entirely unforgivable – common marketing practices in the coaching industry are pushing it big time. We’re all over it.

Working with a coach is not a silver bullet. It’s not the missing piece. It’s definitely not the “secret sauce” (Christ, imagine if ketchup was the answer!). Working with a coach isn’t even bloody necessary. It’s 100% a desire, not a need.

If you desire support from someone who will give it unconditionally inside the boundaries of a structured relationship, without judgement or question, because let’s face it, friends & family can only listen to so much, then hiring a coach can revolutionise the way you ground and anchor yourself through challenges.

If you desire a sounding board with which to bounce strategy ideas around that come from decades of experience then the right coach can help you figure out what works best for you in far less time than it might take solo.

If you desire an outside perspective that can pick up on what’s going on in your energy, uncover blind spots and reflect where you may be going about things inefficiently, then working with a coach is like driving with full beams on.

None of it guarantees success, but it makes the path to YOUR version of success smoother, easier, more enjoyable and less stressful. Which, arguably, is a pretty solid definition of a successful business to be honest!

Having a strong relationship with a good coach CAN move mountains; only a few days ago, Mia blasted my eyes wide open to a pattern that’s been around my entire life, one I couldn’t see and was playing out in ways that create endless anxiety and pain. An almost 35 year old belief unravelled in about 15 minutes. But that didn’t come from Mia’s power alone, (although, that girl can SEE in ways that blow my mind every day), she didn’t give me something I didn’t already have. That breakthrough came from the power of our relationship and my desire to walk through it no matter how difficult.

When power MEETS power, it becomes an alchemical cauldron. When space is held by someone with experience for someone else with desire, their combined power performs transformational magic.

THAT’S what makes working with a coach so special. It’s not a passing on of power you previously didn’t have access to. It’s an unleashing of power you already have, it’s an expansion of power between the two of you. It’s the resourcing of your creative energy in an environment that allows you to channel it clearer, cleaner and farther than you thought possible.

When two humans come together in this way, the potential is infinite!
