For When You Feel Like Giving Up

It takes an Oak Tree 5 to 6 years to become completely self sustainable .
Long before you begin to see even the first stems and leaves emerge from the soil, roots begin to grow deep down in to the Earth.
It takes a full 6 months for an Oak Tree to be even considered a “sapling” at which point it is still only a few feet tall.
From 6 months to 5 years there are many challenges an Oak Tree must overcome to reach full maturity at which point it becomes self sustainable.
Even at full maturity we only see one half of the masterpiece. Deep below the earth Oak Tree roots can spread up to 750 feet.
The depth of the work that must be done before the branches bear fruit is vast. And the work that must continue to be done even after full maturity is unseen yet necessary to continued survival and growth.
Do not underestimate the importance, the power, and the rewards that come from growing deep strong roots first BEFORE you “see” any results from your labour.
This is what is meant by a labour of love. Love every second, every penny, every scream, every deep sigh, every moment of feeling like you’re failing and it’s not working… because I promise you you’re not failing… you’re just growing deep roots. It definitely IS working. Keep going. You’ve no idea how magnificent you could be. Don’t stifle your own potential by running in fear from the prospect of deeper roots.
I know it’s terrifying. I know it’s dark down there and you feel like you’ve got no idea what you’re doing. I know every dollar of every investment that doesn’t see an immediate return churns that knot in your stomach a little tighter. I know sometimes it feels like you can’t breathe and you wish you’d never started. I know what it’s like to hit incredible milestones of growth & achievement and yet it still not be “enough”, forever aspiring to grow that bit taller, that bit wider, that much more expansive. I know what it’s like to be chasing the stars from ground level…. looking up, wishing, wondering, forever asking how.
I know what it’s like to be a baby acorn, a sapling, a young Oak, and a self-sustaining Oak, and yet still aspire for MORE.
But let’s not forget… 5 years is not a lifetime. A lifetime is a lifetime, and you’ve got a whole one to fill with growth. Don’t rush the journey. Trust the process. The deeper those roots, the taller, the stronger, and the more magnificent the Oak Tree.
The mightiest Oak has the deepest roots. Remember that.
I love you
