Do you prioritise your ego needs over actual abundance?

,

Morning Babe!

Did you join in the games yesterday? We managed to find about £500 in various currencies stashed in our draws, jeans, sofas, and random places!

Today’s game will be released shortly, if you’re not yet signed up for notifications of the games, make sure you pop your name in here. There are 3 amazing prizes to be won!

In the meantime, I have a money question for you…

How often do you prioritise your ego needs over actual abundance?

On yesterday’s Money training with Chris Harder for the School of Mastery, I asked Chris why is it that when some (most) people decide to tighten their money belts during “unprecedented times” such as the pandemic we are currently experiencing, do they choose to declutter and cancel the very things that will ensure their future financial security?

For example, why do people choose to cancel their coaching contracts or subscriptions to self-development memberships, but maintain their car payments / drinking habits / online shopping addictions?

New clothes and shoes (no matter how “affordable”), or caffeine, or a car, is going to make the blindest bit of difference to your future security, unless you happen to aspire to be an Uber driver in which case I’d perhaps recommend keeping the car.

Your coach, however (assuming you have a good one), or your subscription to whichever self-improvement membership or programme you previously signed up to when you weren’t living in the fear, is definitely going to help you create change, transformation, and forward momentum towards your dreams and abundant future.

Coffee doesn’t do that. No matter how cheap or expensive the beans. Unless of course you know something about coffee I don’t.

The reason we ditch the stuff that actually helps, over the stuff that doesn’t make the blindest bit of difference, is, according to Chris, because we humans are programmed to ego-centric choices and immediate gratification, i.e. the short game over the long game.

Letting go of the car, sacrificing the new clothes, the extra bottle of wine, the starbucks habit, even the yoga classes, means we lose a sense of identity, and we lose the immediate gratification and false sense of security we derive from these materialistic items and habits. It’s superficial.

If you can genuinely afford them without financial pressure, then great. But if you can’t… why would you continue to spend on false security instead of investing in actual security?

The mere suggestion that you sell your car into order to invest in yourself, through hiring a coach, or a website designer, or investing capital into a new business venture, sends most people reeling.

But if you don’t sell your car, and you don’t invest in yourself… where does that leave you five years from now? Exactly where you are right now. No forward movement. No change. Same financial stress.

Imagine you did free up some cash from whichever ego-centric habits you currently commit to, and instead choose to take a big scary leap into your self-betterment… what might your life look like five years from now?

It’s food for thought.

In the meantime… day 2 of the games is asking you to seek abundance in non-cash forms. Perhaps today’s game is just what you need to unlock the thought process behind your current spending habits.

Enjoy!

My love always

Harriette
