Be the least impressive version of you

Happy New Year Soul fam!

I think this email will either inspire or make you conclude I have lost the plot. But to be honest, I never had it in the first place, so let’s roll.

There was a ‘meme’ doing the rounds on social media over the last week (where are us humans without a good meme eh? 🙄 🙈) You may have seen it, it said something along the lines of “this week between Christmas and new year is for achieving absolutely nothing. Become the least impressive version of yourself. Morph into a couch”.

It made me giggle, and I get the point of it, BUT, I found it oddly inspiring. One line in particular… “become the least impressive version of yourself”.

Honestly it has stuck with me ever since and when I first read it, the rest of whatever it was saying kind of blurred out and that sentence alone gave me an inexplicably liberating feeling. Stick with me.

In the age of the insta guru can you get even 5 minutes into your day without someone telling you to be your best self or live your best life or be so connected to your higher self you transcend all humanism? It’s constant. Be more, do more, achieve more and whilst the idea and intention behind it all I’m totally on board with (M.O.R.E is ALWAYS a vibe, obvs), Christ, it’s a lot of pressure ain’t it?

Are you being your best self or are you constantly questioning if this actually is the best you can be? Is there better available? Did you really give it your all? Might there have been something else that could have made it just slightly better again if only you’d tried a little harder?
Are you really living your best life or are you comparing it to everyone else’s best life and wondering if yours could in fact be better?

The intention behind it all is lovely but in reality all it does it take you out of the present moment and set up a trap of perfectionism even the best best life can’t escape.

But the least impressive version of you on the other hand… well she can only ever go up! She’s free from expectation, free from comparison, free from anxiety and pressure. She’s just… free.

Imagine what you could do when you’re not trying to beat your own impossible standards. Imagine the genius that would unfold when you’re not constantly in competition with yourself.

Create without expectation and know that when a masterpiece is not required, it is miraculously delivered.

Remove the pressure, you don’t need it. You just need to be you, in whatever state you’re currently in. That’s your best self. Raw, authentic, not giving a fuck and trusting that whatever life/your emotional landscape/physical appearance/fill in whatever you worry about looks like, ultimately it’s all serving you. Ultimately it’s exactly what you need to create and birth whatever you’re supposed to.

What if you could descend into the deepest parts of yourself and discover the best version of you is ultimately just, you?

The Descent starts tomorrow.

Shed all that holds you back, remove the pressure, dare to go where the insta gurus won’t.
